Is... is this band ironic?

Yes.

They originally started out as a joke band but they've recently started to gain quite a lot of attention in the metal scene. Kerrang! magazine is absolutely in love with them. Most of their songs revolve around a horde of spacefaring Goblins who escape their goblin island, take over an entire planet and proceed to develop spacefaring technology in order to conquer Earth, which they do.

This takes place over three albums, which all involve one big overarching storyline. Some of their songs, like "Whistles and Bells", "Crickets", and "Bears!" are just for shits and giggles and don't really have to do with the actual storyline. Though technically "Bears!" is canon, since it deals with the goblins reactions upon first encountering bears.

Oh, and "Giraffe", one of my favorite songs, is canon oddly enough, dealing with the goblins leaving a now-conquered Earth in their spaceship and discovering a dead giraffe floating in space near Mars. Fucking hilarious song.

Ah, okay. The idea is kind of hilarious, but it would be slightly disturbing if they took it really, really seriously.

Well...they claim that the goblins kidnap them and torture them in their spaceship in order to force them to write the songs. But it's just a running gag, lol.

Oh, and they have "John Goblikon", a friend in a goblin costume who performs onstage with them at every show.
